I’ve been letting my subconscious work on the blog Stuff White People Like for a few months.

I read it often and vacillate between being offended and thinking that it’s good for a laugh.  The writer(s) has a knack for observing overlooked details that are a way of life to many affluent yuppy-ish urban people.  Topics cover the gamut from travel to the diversity of friends that apparently white people seek.  No subject seems to be off limits and I’m still trying to decide if the blog is a tongue in cheek self portrayal or someone who truly thinks that (what he terms as) white culture is really so petty and self involved.

Like most people, I don’t enjoy being profiled or stereotyped and I try very hard to avoid doing it to other people.

Its very possible that the big black gold chain wearing man driving the Cadillac Escalade who pulls up next to me at the intersection is heading home to brew himself a nice cup of chamomile tea and curl up with a nice Jane Austen novel.  Just like I am not fond of The Idea of Soccer or Sushi.  Nor have I ever been to San Francisco.

In the interest of full disclosure, I am training for a race.  But only a half marathon.  And I’m certainly not trying to qualify for the Boston Marathon.   I’m also guilty of being a graduate of, yes, graduate school.

Anyway, I was behind a car yesterday that, despite my reservations about the site, immediately brought to mind Stuff White People Like.

  • Eco-trendy car: Check
  • Private high school sticker on back window: Check
  • License plate holder identifying the driver’s favorite wine: Check (red, of course)
  • Athletic equipment rack on car roof: Check
  • Another sticker identifying favorite vacation site by the water: Check
  • Driver wearing athletic performance wear and sipping Starbucks: Check and check

Too funny not to share.

I have spent the past two evenings shooting over 250 pictures of this jar so I felt compelled to share it since now I am dreaming about it.  This is obviously a heavily photoshopped version, but I am dealing with some glare from the white labels that I am having trouble with so I decided to have some fun with it.

Since I am so new to the blogging thing, I have been trying to decide what all to put on my page-suggestions, anyone?

Anyway, it seems that people have mixed feelings about these lists for a variety of reasons, but I decided to give it the go ahead.  Lists are fun, and so if you are interested in 101 things about me, here it is.

This is kind of interesting. I have been working on my list of 100 Things About Me and I stumbled across Things Other People Have Accomplished at my Age. While its interesting that someone chose to submit that they put together a toilet without a man’s help at age 52, its kind of depressing to see all the crap that people have done and that I could barely make myself put on clothes that matched today.
